Ferns Hideaway is a unique, secluded, family-owned resort and camping/caravan park situated on 42 acres of riparian rainforest in tropical Central Queensland. The property boasts an impressive variety of fauna and flora, including a plethora of rare Byfield Ferns, giant paperbarks, wallabies, bandicoots, monitor lizards, water dragons, and an abundance of birdlife. It’s the perfect opportunity to relax and reconnect with nature, family, and friends.

Our camping sites are situated amongst beautifully landscaped gardens and stunning natural surroundings, offering ample space for you to set up camp and enjoy the tranquillity of the rainforest.

Whether looking for a tranquil escape or an exciting adventure, Ferns has something for everyone. Our guests can enjoy various complimentary activities, such as lounging by the pool, playing tennis, or exploring the enchanting wilderness of Waterpark Creek in one of our Canadian canoes.

Main Campground

Our large grassy main campground boasts 17 spacious sites that are surrounded by beautiful trees and bush. The Rustic Camp Lounge called “Through and Trolley,” is a charming undercover area perfect for socializing and gatherings. It has a fireplace, creating a cosy ambience during the colder months. You can enjoy a cold drink and some good company while watching the sun go down with a spectacular view of Castle Rock.

Additionally, there is a modest camp kitchen available, complete with a sink, communal fridge, toaster, kettle, and microwave.

Secluded Campsites

If you are someone who values privacy and prefers true bush camping, Ferns has a range of secluded campsites available. Although these campsites are situated a bit further away from the amenities, they are highly sought-after by our regular guests.

These sites are best described as inlets in the bush where you can enjoy complete seclusion and experience the true essence of camping. They are perfect for Camper trailers, Motorhomes, Tents, Rooftops and swags.

If you have any queries or are unsure about which option would be the best fit for you, please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to assist you. When you book online, kindly request a secluded site as they are in limited supply.

Pet Friendly

If you’re planning a trip and can’t imagine leaving your furry friends behind, then Ferns Hideaway is the perfect destination for you! We adore dogs and would love nothing more than to see you and your four-legged friends enjoy the beautiful walking tracks and creek on our property. However, please note that we only allow (well-behaved) dogs in the campground, not in the cabins.

To ensure the safety and comfort of all our guests, we kindly request that you keep your pets on a leash at all times and clean up after them.

This is to show respect for our other guests and the wildlife that surrounds us.

Do you enjoy camping with your kids and making s’mores around a firepit? Or are you searching for a place to hang out with your friends, drink a cold beer, and have a good time by a fire? Our campsites include a firepit, provided there are no fire bans in the local area.

Ferns offers a range of activities to suit guests seeking peace, relaxation, fun and adventure. Visitors can unwind by the pool, play tennis, or explore the captivating wilderness of Waterpark Creek with our complimentary Canadian canoes.

While children play and run around, adults can enjoy a cold drink and a picnic on the open grass area. The property boasts several walking tracks along the tranquil Waterpark Creek and throughout the grounds, allowing guests to explore the beautiful wildlife. Ferns is an ideal place to spend quality time with friends and family while keeping everyone entertained.

Location

Ferns is situated in Byfield, which is a convenient 30-minute drive (39 km) to the north of Yeppoon. It is adjacent to the stunning Byfield National Park and is central to everything the area has to offer.

Prices For Our Spacious Campsites

  • $20 per adult, per night.
  • $15.- kids from 3-13 years
  • Kids under 3 are free
  • For bigger families (4 plus people) that use one campsite, we apply a 10% discount

Other Things To Know

  • If you have friends or family over while you are staying with us they must check in and if they are using our facilities they must get a day pass
  • Our Day Pass rates are:
  • Adults/Kids $15 p/p (under 3 are free)
  • After 9.30 PM it’s quiet time, no amplified music or noise allowed.

  • Unpowered sites mainly (powered sites are limited and per request only $15 extra per night)

  • No dump point provided.
  • We sell bags of firewood.
  • We don’t mind you getting some kindling from the forest but please be mindful and respectful and only pick up what is already on the ground.
